Good acoustics in 1980s home

Echo Sand Residential house

Often you don't find out that the acoustics in your home are not right until you are already living there. This was the case with Lyke from Laren: in her newly renovated 80s home, reverberant sound caused a lot of unrest. Echo Acoustic helped her improve the acoustics in her home and we asked her about her experiences.

First results await

"The first time we visited Lyke, she had already received several quotes for improving the acoustics in her home. However, our solution was the only one that was completely durable and that was the deciding factor for her. At first she wanted to have more than just the sloping ceiling in her kitchen covered with our solution, but I advised her not to do this and first experience what just the ceiling covering would do for the acoustics in that room. She was pleasantly surprised when indeed it turned out that this solved all the problems," says Kevin Bond, owner of Echo Acoustic.

Lyke clarifies, "We remodeled our 1980s home using a lot of hard materials, such as glass facades and a mezzanine above the kitchen in which a marble kitchen island was placed. It looks beautiful, but we couldn't enjoy it because the sound echoed everywhere. In a house with children, then, it quickly becomes a continuous din, which is very tiring. After Kevin and the guys lined the ceilings of the kitchen and dining room with the Echo Sand, these rooms were transformed into an oasis of calm where we love to stay."

You get so much more rest with good acoustics

"It has now been several years since we were introduced to Kevin and Echo Acoustic, and we are still incredibly happy with the results. In fact, Echo Acoustic has treated a number of additional rooms for us in the meantime, so that the acoustics have improved significantly. In fact, we've now also had the study and the new extension done. You get so much more rest with good acoustics! We can now really enjoy being home together, but we are not quite finished yet. In the garage we have created a place where the children can have parties, play games or watch a movie. There we are now going to improve the acoustics as well, so that will also become a really nice place in our home."

"The sustainable aspect of Echo Sand appealed to us tremendously: a circular textile product and an open top layer. This appears to absorb the sound in our home incredibly well. But, let's be honest, the aesthetic aspect is also important. And fortunately that too is in order: it blends in beautifully with our ceilings, so that you hardly notice it at all. It really is the ideal solution for ceilings: I think it might be a little too fragile for walls, but on the ceiling it does its job just fine," continues Lyke.

Not one second of regret

"We really don't regret for a second our decision to have the acoustics in our home improved in this way. The people at Echo Acoustic not only do a very good job, with noticeable results, but they are also pleasant to deal with. They work hard, are polite and work around our family with ease. You should know that they have to come twice for each room, as the plaster needs to dry for a while before they can finish the job. They spent a total of three weeks the first time and two weeks with the additional rooms. But because they are such nice people, it didn't feel unpleasant at all to allow them into our personal living environment. In any case, we are extremely happy that we chose Echo Acoustic," Lyke concludes her story.
